OVERVIEW

Tumors of melanocytes and of epidermal keratinocytes are discussed in Chapters 31 and 32, respectively. Many of the benign skin appendage tumors discussed in Chapter 23 have a malignant counterpart, but these are all rare.
Other tumors that may affect the skin include the following.

  •   Lymphomas, which may be apparently confined to the skin, or part of a systemic disease, and leukemic infiltrates.
  •   Sarcomas and nerve tumors — includes tumors arising from dermal fibroblasts, from dermal dendrocytes, or from blood or lymphatic vessels.
  •   Histiocytoses (Chs 11 and 19).
  •   Neuroendocrine tumors — Merkel cell carcinoma.
  •   Glandular tumors — Paget disease.
  •   Metastases to the skin.
