Search enhancements that were implemented on June 14, 2008, had the following effects on functionality:
All saved searches created before June 14, 2008, must be resaved.
To save a search, you must use the Save Current Search button. The bookmarking feature in your Internet browser will no longer save a search on MerckMedicus.
The Back and Forward browser buttons may cause an error when refining your search and drilling down into search results. Please use the tools and menus provided on the search screen to navigate through your search results.
Performing a search on MerckMedicus is easier and more efficient. Updated search features provide more meaningful search results. You can make your search as general or as specific as you wish using our Basic or Advanced Search capabilities.
For best results, sign in as a registered user of MerckMedicus before searching to gain complete access to your search results. If you are not yet registered, register now!
Basic Search
A Basic Search on MerckMedicus enables you to search generally for at least one of the words you enter into the search box (eg, "sinusitis," "allergic rhinitis," or "HIV AIDS"). Searching for any one of the words you enter, as opposed to all of them exactly, will provide a broad range of results.
Advanced Search
MerckMedicus offers Advanced Search features, enabling you to conduct more targeted searches of specific resources you select.
An Advanced Search will enable you to search for all of the words (eg, "osteoporosis in postmenopausal women") or the exact phrase (eg, "effects of changes in blood glucose levels") that you enter into the search box, generating more specific results.
The search engine on MerckMedicus is not case sensitive, nor does it consider punctuation. It will even assist you in spelling your search terms correctly. Search features on MerckMedicus include natural-language capabilities, word stemming, auto-tagging, incorporation of a medical thesaurus, and concept-based resource identification.
You can narrow your focus further by searching within current results or selecting the specific resources you wish to search, including all MerckMedicus resources, MEDLINE, and Ovid Journals and Textbooks. Searches can even be saved and run at a later time for added convenience!
